Our promises

What we promise, and how you can check it

Email and files say a lot about a person or a company. These are the things PineMail commits to, each with where you can see that it holds.

  1. 01Your data never trains AI

    We do not use your mail, files, calendar or contacts to train AI models, and we do not sell or hand them to anyone who does.

    How we keep it. Your content is read by the software that delivers, stores and shows it to you, and by nothing else. The sub-processors on the public list only carry out that work for us. See the sub-processors

  2. 02No advertising, and your information is not sold

    There are no ads in PineMail, and we build no profile of you or the people you write to. The service is paid for by the accounts that pay for it.

  3. 03Stored in Sweden and Finland

    Mail and calendars are stored on a dedicated server at Hetzner in Helsinki, and attachments and files, encrypted, on our own server in Sweden. Outgoing mail leaves through Amazon SES in Stockholm.

  4. 04Everyone who handles your data is named

    Every company that processes data for PineMail is on a public list, with what it does and where. A data processing agreement is included for every account.

  5. 05Encrypted where it is stored

    Message text, original messages, attachments and files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they are written to disk, and search runs on keyed hashes instead of your words. A copy of the database or the stored files reveals none of it.

    How we keep it. The application holds the key on the same server, so this protects copies, not a server someone has taken over. Subjects, addresses, calendars and contacts are not encrypted, and mail is not end-to-end encrypted. Read how it works

  6. 06You pay for what you use

    You pay for storage and sending, at about three times what they cost us, and a small fee for the account. Mailboxes and domains cost nothing extra.

  7. 07Your mail stays yours

    PineMail speaks the open standards: IMAP and SMTP for mail, CalDAV for calendars. Any mail app can read your mailbox, and you can take everything with you.

    How we keep it. Add the account to Apple Mail, Thunderbird or your phone with the settings in your mailbox.
